Gourmet Meals celebrating 25 years!

For over 25 yeas now we’ve believed in the same simple philosophy – real food made by real people. Food should be tasty, wholesome and nourishing - not full of preservatives and additives – and above all, taste like real home cooking. Easy to prepare and backed by brilliant customer service. That’s the Gourmet way.

From humble beginnings in 1990, husband and wife team Daniel and Susanne Wuthrich, founders of Gourmet Meals landed on the shores of Australia and headed straight to the Gold Coast to follow their love for the water and the ocean. Back home, in Switzerland Daniel was a keen windsurfer on the Swiss lakes.

Dani gained employment at the Royal Pines fine dining kitchen, where he met Walter Muller – now Gourmet Meals’ five-star head chef who has been with them over 15 years. Sue started working as a chef at a Helensvale retirement village. It was during this time that the idea of starting up their own business, Gourmet Meals, formally known as Conessa, was born, opening the doors in 1993.

Partnering up with another local brand Kraft Cakes, Max and Judy Kraft – together with their culinary skills they created salad dressings, mayonnaises, tartare and cocktail sauces. They also made some delicious chutney dip sauces and distributed Bundaberg Maple syrup. Christmas cakes and puddings were next in line for their Gourmet repertoire.

In 1998 a school teacher advised them of the growing need for nutritional meals at schools as at that point in time the tuckshop menu consisted of pies and sausage rolls - oh how it’s changed! Also, around the same time they were asked to provide wholesome meals for an elderly person by a friend. Susanne and Daniel soon realised there was a huge need in the market for supplying healthy, nutritious meals to our seniors. They discovered the only business doing anything remotely close was Meals on Wheels, whom they now work with.

As of 1998 more and more staff were employed as the business gained momentum and many still remain as part of our team at Gourmet Meals to this very day. In 2005, our marketing began, and home delivered Gourmet Meals became a local brand here on the Gold Coast. Before we knew it, we had a top of the range Italian packing machine to keep up with the demand which only grew from there on. From supplying a few tuckshops and a hand full of seniors with ready meals, we now produce some 3500 meals a day. This Gold Coast based, owned and operated business is a true family run business, holding the same values now as it did 25 years ago.
